Delores Corbett Hughes

Delores Corbett Hughes passed away due to cancer on September 2, 2024 at the Salem Oregon hospital.

She was born April 17, 1952 to Alicia Corbett and John Day in Orofino, Idaho. Delores lost her mother at a very young age and her family  cared for her until her sister Lydia Corbett Steele took her in and raised her. Wherever Lydia was you know you would see Delores. They had a very close relationship throughout the years, and she was her sister’s caregiver until Lydia passed away in 2014.

Delores married Robert Burke and had two children from him. Her children were stolen from her when they were very young, and she could never find them. She always thought about them and loved them very much. Stoney and Suzy Burke your mom loved you to the day she passed.

As a young woman Delores went to the Job Corps in 1973/1974 in Astoria, Oregon to learn how to be a CNA. Her son Daniel was just a baby when they lived in Astoria. She moved back to live with her sister Lydia in 1974 due to being so homesick for her sister. She then met Bruce Hewkin and they married in John Day, OR. They later divorced. Delores moved back to Orofino with her sister and family in 1983.

During her time in Orofino, she met the love of her life Robert Hughes and they eventually married April 26, 1994 at the Lewiston courthouse with all their loved ones there to witness. For a time, Delores and Robert lived at Walla Walla, WA and worked at a motel to eventually moved back to Idaho. Delores moved with Robert to three different areas in Washington because of his work for different farms. They eventually settled at Endicott, WA. They did end their marriage, but stayed good friends all these years.

She moved to the Nez Perce Senior Citizens apartments where her sister Lydia was living. Delores stayed there until she moved to Monmouth, OR to be closer to her son Daniel in 2018 due to her declining health. She was living at the Huron Pointe Senior Living Center until her passing. Her family was in the process of moving her home when she passed.  She will always be remembered by the staff as a terrorizer. She loved to tease them. 

If you knew Delores you know she loved to camp, pick huckleberries, go fishing (but would not bait her own hook), and just being out in the mountains with her family. She used to find many different crafts to do and would always give her projects away to people. She used to buy her weekly smut magazines to read with her sister Lydia. She loved her Pepsi, coffee, and cigs.

Her survivors include her son Daniel Day, grandsons Kaliel and Naqoi Everett, her grandson Mateo Day, son Robert (Stoney) Burke, daughter Suzy Burke, niece Alicia (Max) Wheeler and family, nephew Kelly Steele and family.

Delores is preceded in death by her mother Alicia Corbett, father John Day, her sister Lydia Corbett Steele (brother-in-law Sonny Steele), sister Vivian Corbett Allman (brother-in-law William Allman) nephews Jerry Daniels and David Daniels, and brother Jerry Corbett.

Graveside service at Ahsahka Cemetery October 26 at 10:00 with a dinner following at the Teweepuu Center. Any donations for food are welcome and can be given to Alexis Coomer (head cook).
