Patricia Jane Mathews, Ch’mt?le (Far Side From Here) completed her life’s journey and went home to the Creator on Thursday, July 25th, 2024.
Patricia “Pat” was born September 20, 1949, to Jesse Mathews (Spokane) and Melinda Mathews (Nez Perce) in Brewster, Washington. She was a proud enrolled member of the Spokane Tribe, went to Chilocco Indian School, and would go on to attend Laney College in Oakland, California.
Those who knew Pat expected nothing less than her witty and sarcastic sense of humor. She lived a fulfilling life, accomplished many wonderful and great things, and to her grandchildren, was a firecracker personality and always up for an adventure. She worked at the East Oakland Switchboard, a non-profit organization in Oakland, California and at the Clearwater River Casino in bingo. And although short in stature, Pat last worked in security at the Clearwater River Casino, before retiring. Pat loved to golf, was a dedicated consumer and collector of Coca-Cola products, loved elephants and butterflies, and won many Halloween costume contests, most notably, when she dressed in costume as the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Pat was too just as creative and artistic in scrapbooking, and she took pride in decorating the walls of her home with pictures, top to bottom. She enjoyed nights at PK’s, spending time with her grandchildren in the Pacific Northwest, and traveling to her favorite destination, Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii.
She is survived by her children, MiChel and Kevin Mathews-Healy (Lewiston, ID), Carmen Andrews (Wellpinit, WA), Gerald “Jerry” Andrews (Spokane, WA), Robert Sampson (Toppenish, WA); siblings, Donna Henry and Marcus Mathews (both of Lapwai, ID); grandchildren, DeViny Sanchez (San Francisco, CA), Darian Dru and Joseph Aubert (Colville, WA), N’Zhone Twi Ollgaard (Spokane, WA); great grandchildren, LeVonne Anthony Paul (San Francisco, CA), and Raizel and Kaizel Ollgaard of Spokane, WA; nieces, Tracee Holt (Poulsbo, WA) and Charlotte Mathews (Albuquerque, NM); friends and family, Ronda Spaulding, Charlie James, Sunae Reuben, Ketta Rueben, Charlotte “Shot” Watters, Stephanie George Williams, Vanessa Henry, Misty Lincoln, Daneta Jabeth, and Julie Seely, all of Lapwai, ID, Ana Hayes (San Antonio, TX), Chris and Adeline Nahsonhoya, Jamie and Linda Five-Crow, Yvette Carter (Guam, HI), PK’s Place, and many other friends and family too numerous to list.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Mathews and Melinda Mathews; siblings, Bryson Mathews (brother), Charlotte Mathews (sister), and Evelyn “Woody” Mathews-Johnson (sister); aunt, Daisy Abrahamson; cousin, Lester Moses; grandfather, Whitman Jesse Mathews “Papo”; nieces, Charisse LeVonne Holt and Adrienne Henry; nephew, Adam Mathews; brother-in-law, Billy Daniel Henry; friends, Ali Dean and George Ray of Oakland, CA.
Pat will be loved and missed by many, and the family would like to thank the staff at Royal Plaza, hospice services, and others who helped care for her.
A memorial service with lunch to follow will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024 at the PiNee Waus, with Jeff Guillory officiating
