Dara LeAnn Curry

Dara LeAnn Curry “Q’usisimew” passed away at her Lapwai home on Monday, June 24, 2024, at the age of 38. She was born to Sheila Jabeth and Vincent Taylor on January 28, 1986, in Lewiston, Idaho.

She lived and grew up in Clarkston, WA where she attended Parkway Elementary School through the 6th grade. In 1997 the family moved to Lapwai, ID where she attended High School and then to Spokane (2001-03) where Dara attended Medicine Wheel Academy and found her passion in photography, there was an article where she made the front page of the Spokane Review. Returning to Lapwai in 2004 Dara completed her GED.

Dara married Jess Hill Curry Sr. on Dec. 21, 2007, in Lapwai, ID at Nez Perce Tribal Court and had 3 beautiful children Gabrielle, Jesse and Rossi.

Dara held a variety of jobs including Summer Youth Employment (Spokane), Nez Perce Tribe Young Horseman’s Program, Jacques Spur Restaurant waitress, Cosmetologist, Mary Kay beauty consultant, Nez Perce Enterprises Camas Express and Clearwater River Casino, and most recent a Case Manager for the Nez Perce Tribe TANF Program.

Dara was affiliated with the Spalding Presbyterian Church and Mud Springs Association and also grew up in the NAME Church. She really loved playing horseshoes with her husband Jesse where she made many friends and traveling to tournaments.

She is survived by her mother Sheila Jabeth of Clarkston; father, Vincent Taylor of Lewiston; husband, Jesse Curry Sr., of Lapwai; her children: Gabrielle Curry of Lapwai, Jesse Curry Jr. of Lapwai, Rossi Curry of Lapwai; brothers: Joseph Rickman of Lapwai, Cloud Rickman of Lewiston, Orlando Taylor of Lewiston, Justin Rickman of Craigmont, Alex Rickman of Lapwai, Darrell Rickman Jr of Tacoma,WA; sisters: Shyenne Calkins of Spokane, Monica Taylor of Lapwai and Daneta Taylor of Spokane and many nieces and nephews.

A brother, Dennis Samuel Rickman, preceded Dara in death, as did paternal grandparents: Virginia and Dexter Rickman, and two maternal grandmothers: Susie Jabeth and Sadie Jabeth.

Services will take place on July 1, 2024 at Vassar-Rawls at 1PM. Dressing and Viewing and one last ride with our elder. Evening services will be at 7PM at the PiNeeWaus in Lapwai, ID Non-Denominational. Tuesday July 2, 2024 Services will be at 10AM and burial to follow at Webb Road family cemetery and dinner to follow at PiNeeWaus. Jeff Guillory and Steve Axtell, both of Lapwai, will officiate.
