Otis Halfmoon Presents on Tribal Perspectives of Nez Perce History

On March 20, 2025, Nez Perce elder W. Otis Halfmoon presented on the importance of including tribal voices in the telling of Nez Perce history as part of Native American Awareness Week at LCSC.

Nez Perce elder W. Otis Halfmoon delivered a presentation titled “Tribal Perspectives of Nez Perce History” on March 20, 2025, at the Williams Conference Center at Lewis-Clark State College. The presentation was part of the college’s 38th Annual Native American Awareness Week.

Halfmoon discussed how he interprets tribal stories for the public and emphasized the importance of including tribal voices in the telling and retelling of history. He reflected on his career with the National Park Service, where he served as an interpreter, park historian, unit administrator, and liaison officer working with Indigenous communities throughout the western United States. He also spoke about his commitment to documenting and preserving Nez Perce history and culture.

The session was open to the public and well-attended by students, faculty, and community members.
