The Nez Perce Tribe has been highly successful in planning, development, and advancement of our economic and community growth. These programs have been implemented throughout the Tribe, but they regularly meet to achieve growth in line with the overall Tribal Strategic Plan. For many years, the Tribe considered developing a Department of Planning and Economic Development (DPED).
As the Nez Perce Tribe continues to grow in capacity and opportunity, it has become increasingly important to adopt a strategic, data-driven approach to economic development. The creation of a dedicated DPED within the Nez Perce Tribe aligns with our vision of building a strong, resilient, and self-sustaining tribal economy that reflects our cultural values and community priorities.
We are thrilled to announce that DPED has been officially established to guide and support the Tribe’s long-term economic growth, sustainability, and self-determination. The potential this new department brings for advancing the Tribe’s economic goals in a way that honors our traditions while embracing new opportunities is exciting.
Today, the Tribe is happy to announce the interim appointment of Anthony Johnson as the DPED Manager. Mr. Johnson will be immediately working on diversifying our planning and economic options to meet the short- and long-term goals of the Tribe. DPED will be responsible for planning to meet the Tribes’ near-term organizational needs and developing options under the current administration. Mr. Johnson will serve in this position while recruitment occurs. Continued department-wide input and collaboration are essential as we begin this work.
